One of my older stories, “By the Screened-in Back Porch,” which first appeared in print about a decade ago is being reprinted today at House of Long Shadows on Substack. Inspired by the back porch area of my grandparents’ house back in Wichita, it tells of a family of young children anxiously waiting for the night for their mother to return home.
And what happens when she actually does return.
